A Small "L"

Mixing religon with academics is new for me and I kind of love it! I have never experienced it before because I never attended a church university. This morning we got taught a lesson about being a disciple leader. Leading with a small "L" in the home, ward, community or workplace. I think when I was growing up, the leaders of the groups or organizations were the loud outgoing ones. At least the leader of our little friend "clique" in elementary/Junior high school was. That went for the Student Body president in high school too. Then as we grow into adults that totally changes! You want the humble leader who serves, ministers, loves and supports quietly.

One other thought I'd like to touch on is a quote from Elder Bednar saying:

"A disciple recognizes that faith in the Savior is a spiritual gift and appropriately seeks for that gift in his or her life. Faith is not a trait to be developed or a reward to be earned. Rather, it is a gift we receive from God."

An elderly lady in my class (who I love because she reminds me of my Grandma) then wrote on the discussion board..

"I realize that I need to keep my covenants and diligently work on being a disciple of Christ to merit this gift. It won't just come from me asking. I feel more hope when I realize that what I have perceived as lacking on my part is not a character flaw but rather a space that can (and will) be filled as I continue to pray for the gift of faith."

Amen Melissa!

I am so excited for this weekend of General Conference! I have a lot of questions that I am bringing this weekend and know that I can receive answers to them.

"There are messages in each general conference given as a gift and a blessing from heaven specifically for our personal life situations." -President Uchtdorf

"In conference we can receive the word of the Lord meant just for us."
-Elder Hales

"If we teach by the Spirit and you listen by the Spirit, some one of us will touch on your circumstance, sending a personal prophetic epistle just to you."
-Elder Holland
