Growing up in Utah, you celebrate two holidays in July. The 4th of July and Pioneer day on the 24th. Leading up to the holiday, I was in California staying with my grandparents. It was such a great time learning about my ancestors. Seeing pictures was my absolute favorite, it made it more real. My Mom's side has the Sessions' family who were part of the first pioneer group who came to Utah. They settled Bountiful, Utah (where I mostly grew up). Perrigrine Sessions was one of the body guards for Joseph Smith. It was perfect timing to get me ready for this Pioneer holiday.
The morning of the 24th, they had a pioneer day festival. Booths for the kids, food, and live entertainment. Part of that entertainment was SJ and his family. When we lived in Utah, Shaun and his family had a little band. They have continued without him but every now and then Shaun will come back for a show. So they played at that festival and then on Friday they are opening for Taylor Hicks (yeah I had to google him too ha). One of their biggest audiences yet though, which is super exciting for them.
The rest of the day was water fights, running through sprinklers, and eating. Also we found out that the high aerial fireworks are now legal to shoot off so we threw our own firework show. Such a fun weekend with family and remembering those family members that came before us.
